May Pole

Pictured below is a local artist, Phyllis Craig, at work on three 15-foot tall May Poles which will be on display east of town for Maifest weekend during the Civil War Days.  The decorative poles will be situated at the bottom of the Himmelstreppe (Stairway to Heaven) as a welcome to all Maifest visitors.  The project is funded by the Dierberg Foundation.

The poles are an early Maifest tradition in the Hermann community as well as European countries.  The three newly refurbished Hermann May Poles will be repainted in red and white and decorated with a colorful variety of long colored ribbons suspended from the top.  Craig plans to festoon the poles with lacquered silk flowers and greenery. The large grapevine wreaths atop will be decorated with flowing patterned ribbons and  symbols of Spring.

Hermann Antique Show

Thanks to those of you who were able to make it to the 2010 Hermann Antique Show, held last month at the Festhalle and Hofgarten. We hope that you all enjoyed the wonderful selection of first rate antiques offered at this year’s show. Show Manager, Eric Nichols, selected each dealer with a discerning eye, and has been developing the show into one of the best in the midwest.

We are moving forward on plans for next year's show. The dates are April 16th - 17th, 2011. We promise to offer the same quality of antiques for 2011.  We will continue our quest for only the finest antiques in the field of collecting to keep up the same level and quality of our past shows.

See the Hermann Antique Show website for more information: www.hermannantiqueshow.com.

Congratualations to Pete Cannady, the winner of Hermannhof's Antique Show Drawing.

Recipe

“This is one of my favorite appetizers.  It can be prepared a day ahead of serving.  This would be excellent served with Hermannhof Seyval Blanc or Vidal Blanc or Dierberg or Three Saints Chardonnay.

I use "Baby Bella" or "Italian Brown" mushrooms, but regular button mushrooms work well also.”

The Inn at Hermannhof offers a restful spot in a dream getaway

Thu, 05/06/2010 - 2:08pm — Alex Luft – Editor

Furniture like this grand king-sized bed makes the Grapevine Suite at the Inn at Hermannhof a premier place to stay, but just wait until you see the bathroom.

When you stay at the Inn at Hermannhof in downtown Hermann, Mo., sometimes it’s hard to know when you’re really awake. That’s because the entire Hermannhof experience is a step into the living daydream of a visionary developer, Jim Dierberg--and a sweet dream it is.

Part of the recipe for success for the Inn at Hermannhof is sticking closely to the formula that brings visitors to Hermann year after year. First and foremost is wine, and all of the Inn’s lodging options are within an easy walk of the Hermannhof winery, where more than 40,000 gallons of wine are produced each year. Stays at the Inn at Hermannhof come with a complimentary bottle of the best-selling White Lady, a Riesling-style white that leaves no visitors thirsty.  Click here for the complete article and great photos.

Dierberg - Star Lane - Three Saints

April Showers Bring May Flowers

The Dierberg - Star Lane - Three Saints Tasting Room is getting a facelift and ready for the warm summer months ahead.  With the anticipation of a brand new patio and a new interior, come in and start off your summer right with the Three Saints 2007 Chardonnay. With the flavors of lemon curd, lemon blossoms and smooth barrel finish, it is the perfect wine to come out of the wet and cool down with this May.

With being accepted into the Hermann Wine Trail, we started off this month with the Norton wine trail.  We paired our Three Saints 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon with stuffed mushrooms with Swiss cheese.  Paring of the Cabernet allows a reference to the rugged character of the Norton.  With its origins occurring organically in the field of Bordeaux, a cross between a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Franc, and being one of the world’s most traveled grape, it’s the perfect cousin to run with the big robust red of the Missouri Norton. One pioneer to another.   Click here for the stuffed mushrooms with Swiss cheese recipe.

Taste For the Arts

Pik'n Lik'n to Perform

on Saturday June 5th, 2010

from 10-4

Pik'n Lik'n was established in the summer of 2001 in the courtyard of The Shanti on 9th and Allen in Soulard in St Louis. It all started when a few Rock-n-Rollers wanted to play some Bluegrass, pik'n on strings. A Bluegrass group wanted to trade off guitar liks (thus the name " Pik'n Lik'n ") and a new group was formed.

For more information, contact Joan Treis at 573-486-3276.

The event is sponsored by the Hermann Farm & Museum and funded by the Dierberg Educational Foundation.
